Now into the 11th month of my Radical sabbatical and Surrender Experiment and building my Cannabis Digital Content and Events Company and I am in Williamsburg, Brooklyn staying with my friend Marlon, after two months in Trinidad and Tobago. And as usual, wherever I am, I go looking for fresh Cannabis experiences and products to try out. And since New York just decriminalised Cannabis/Marijuana/Weed/Ganja at the end of August while I’ve been here, I’ve been extra keen on what pops unto my radar.
That said, I went to this coworking/entertainment/bar space called Freehold and on the menu they offered CBD Oil as an extra to drop in your tea, coffee or hot chocolate and for US$4.00. So I ordered a hot chocolate with almond milk and CDB Oil as an extra. Total cost US$9.
I didn’t know how many drops they were going to add, so I didn’t know how many MGs I was getting, I only knew that it was the brand Plant People CBD Oil (which I Googled later) as I wanted to see how it was going to affect me.
Taste: First of all, I’ve had better hot chocolate ( Susie’s Cafe in Kingston, Jamaica still makes the best ever, so I’m spoiled). So the hot chocolate taste was ok and while I know that the overall taste was also being a little bit influenced by the drops of CBD, my well-honed Hot chocolate connoisseur taste buds could tell the difference. You see CBD generally has a nutty, grassy-ish kinda taste. Anyway, I was committed to drinking this entire cup to see how it affected me. I had it at about 11:30 a.m.
How Much CBD? : From the picture that I took, I counted about 8-10 drops and I couldn’t gauge how much MGs of the CDB oil I ingested. I didn’t ask and I wasn’t told.
Mind and Body Effects: And it didn’t take long, as I continued to get some work in the Freehold Space, I started to feel, well relaxed. I went to grab a burger at Shake Shack a few blocks and then returned to Freehold.
On the walk, I was in a generally good, feeling pretty light-hearted. I finished working and then later when I returned home at about 4 pm, as I sat down on the sofa, BAM! I was asleep. And I’m someone, the consummate night owl, who normally does not sleep during the day. And it was a deep, curl up in the sofa power nap that lasted about 30mins. When I woke up I felt really chilled.
Knowing that I had an evening event to go to, I had to get ready. But what I observed on the way there, walking and hopping on the L Train to Cooper Union, I noticed that I was feeling a little fatigued and it wasn’t that the effects of my still in training New York legs. I felt it in my shoulders and legs. This actually can be one of the side effects of CBD Oil, depending on how your body responds to it and that also depends on how much you’ve ingested.
Anyway, after my event and coming home, my bed was screaming for me. So I yielded and again the sleep was deep and sweet, woke up feeling really good in the morning, zero fatigue.
My Personal Conclusion: Based on how my body responded to this first CBD-infused beverage that I’ve ever had, tt’s best that I take the CDB Oil in the late afternoon and evening, so I can give in to the full relaxed, easy to sleep effects, which is why I am into CDB in the first place…to help with shutting off my overactive entrepreneur’s mind and helping with insomnia.
What I will do next time: I would ask how many drops are they adding to my beverage and how many MGs will that be. Because having read copious amounts of reports, blogs and watching scores of hours of online video about CBD, how to buy it, how to microdose when start using it…it’s best to start small…called micro-dosing..then gauge based on how your mind and body feel, then increase accordingly. I think because fo the fatigue I felt, I may have started too heavy also, so I’m going to do this again…add CDB oil to a beverage this time, fewer drops and see how it affects me then.
Source of the CBD Oil: According to menu at Freehold, the source was Plant People. According to their website, their ” industrial hemp-derived products are produced from 100% organic plants grown with love and care from Colorado farmers. Our oils are full-spectrum and are extracted from the whole plant making for a well rounded holistic oil.” This was good to know.
They also say that “All products come with a Certificate of Analysis to ensure we are crafting our products with the finest materials. ” I searched their website and I didn’t see their third-party lab results published, which would be good for them to do, since some of their competitors seeking to win over customers with transparency and an educational approach, actually do this.
Also crucial for newbies to the Cannabis and CBD Oil for Wellness, you also need to know that the Full Spectrum type of CBD is actually one of the best for you to start on. Why? Full-spectrum is an extract that is high in CBD but also contains other beneficial cannabinoids such as CBC, CBN, CBG as well as terpenes and other phytonutrients. This gives what is called the Entourage Effect, the full-on therapeutic effect on your body’s Endocannabinoid System. All of these work in harmony to deliver a healing.
So that was my first experience having a CDB Oil infused beverage. If you have any questions, shoot me an email at ingrid@themmg.xyz
