I decided to a mini-guide to making your own CBD loose Leaf Tea as Christmas can be anxiety, stress and pain-inducing season -thanks to increased traffic, shopping, work and family politics.
I was also asked by friends and other people who’ve been seeing my content online these past few weeks…about the tea, as well, as everyone has their preferred method of consuming Medical Cannabis. Additionally, Ganja tea has been pretty common in Jamaica. Fun fact, my mother told me that it’s probably the reason I am alive and well today as she gave it to me as a toddler when I had Whooping Cough. That definitely had THC in there, but this is CBD tea.
About CBD
Cannabidiol or CBD is a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant with enormous therapeutic potential. Although CBD doesn’t make you feel high like THC does, it’s causing quite a buzz among scientists, health and wellness professionals, and medical marijuana patients who are using CBD-rich products to treat a wide range of conditions—chronic pain, menstrual cramps, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, antibiotic-resistant infections, multiple sclerosis and more.
Why and How I consume it
For me personally, I’ve been using CBD for monthly lady pains, as well as stress and anxiety-induced insomnia. I smoke spliffs, drink the tea and use the oils, depending on my mood and what I need at that time.
I smoke when I need a fast relief of menstrual cramps as after 3-5 puffs and I am like…what cramps?! When I want to relax and power down slowly after a rough day or week….I smoke, but maybe take more puffs 5-8 or so, for 3 drops of the oil or some steeped loose leaf tea….which is perfect as the full effect come on about 30-90 minutes after consuming and when you yield to that….sweet sleep. No mind racing.
Before I get into the details, please remember this.
– As CBD is not naturally water-soluble, you must add a fatty base to your tea to help with absorption.
-Cannabis brewed in water can be bitter and grassy.
-Cannabis brewed in water will result in the essential oils and cannabinoids of the material to float and stick to the cup. The active chemistry in cannabis is not water soluble. So you must add any fatty milk (cow, goat, hemp, nut) and/or butter/ coconut oil.
Ok let’s get to making some CBD Loose Leaf Tea.
Ingredients
- 1-2 tablespoons of freshly ground or loose leaf mixture of CBD stems, leaves, mini buds from a CBD-rich strain.
- Add full-fat milk like coconut, goat, whole dairy, nut to your taste
- 1 tbsp of coconut oil or softened butter to your taste
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup of hot water
- 1tbsp Honey
- Dash of cinnamon
Directions
Step 1: Gather the ingredients
Step 2: In your favorite Tea mug or Teapot, add the honey, cinnamon stick and vanilla extract to your taste.
Step 3: Add the loose leaves in its container ( see picture) and fill it with hot water. Let steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the tea leaf container and add a splash of full-fat milk…almond, hemp, rice. Some people prefer a tablespoon of butter or coconut oil. Try to keep the fat content as high as possible: avoid “skim” and “lite” products if you want the most potent CBD tea.
NB: It is important to note that cannabinoids (like CBD) need fat to be absorbed in order to feel all of the relaxing effects of CBD. Therefore, it is recommended that you drink your CBD tea after a meal, rather than on an empty stomach.
Takeaways
CBD tea can help with sleep, mood stability, anxiety, inflammation, and more.
NB: You can use the CBD Flower Buds, CBD Flower contents of a pre-roll to do this as well. Experiment and see what tastes and feels better to you. And like with anything you can make the tea stronger or lighter depending on what you want. Remember to source your CBD material from trusted sources.
