How and Why I Pivoted My Life and Business from Tech to Include Wellness, Culture & Entertainment

Ingrid Riley, October 4, 2025October 4, 2025

Last year, I was OUTSIDE and ONLINE big time.
My gym life was spotty.
My dating life? On ice.

But I was moving – searching, researching, showing up at events, exploring new spaces, having some of the most electric conversations of my life. I was deep in observation mode.

I surrendered to who and what moved me.
No spreadsheets. No five-year plans.
Just pure curiosity.

I followed the energy instead of the strategy.

The Shift I Couldn’t Ignore

After 17 years of producing 300+ tech events across the Caribbean – from meetups and hackathons to summits and investor forums – I felt a shift coming.

For almost two decades, I’ve been known for building ecosystems: connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and digital creators through SiliconCaribe and Kingston BETA.
But something in me was calling for expansion.

That’s when I pivoted.

I moved from being the Caribbean’s leading tech event producer to founding GridNet – my next chapter and evolution.

The Intersection I See Next

GridNet isn’t just about tech.
It’s about Tech, Wellness, and Culture/Entertainment – the new triangle of influence, I believe, will define the next decade of Caribbean innovation, impact, and collaboration with the rest of the World.

Why these three?

Because this is where the next wave of Caribbean creativity, capital, and community will collide and from where it will be exported to the world.

I see it already: creators and coders collaborating, DJs and developers experimenting, investors funding experiences that merge wellbeing, innovation, and artistry.

Hungry for Growth

This pivot wasn’t just about seeing market opportunity – it was personal.

I was hungry for growth.
For newness.
For the challenge.

And I could see the cross-pollination potential between these worlds. The same way technology transformed how we live, wellness and culture are now transforming how we thrive – especially in this new AI-driven era.

That’s the space I want to build in.

Building at the Intersection

So from here on out, I’m building brands, events, and communities that live at that intersection -where tech meets wellness, creativity, culture, and entertainment.

Because that’s where the future feels most alive.
That’s where I can use everything I’ve learned – from trendspotting to deal-making – to shape something new, joyful, and deeply human.

A Pivot That’s Also a Realignment

This pivot wasn’t just a business move.
It was a life move.

A realignment with what feels good, what excites me, and where I know my impact lives.

Sometimes, growth doesn’t look like scaling up – it looks like shifting lanes, giving yourself permission to start fresh with everything you’ve learned along the way.

The Lesson

If you’re in a season of pivoting, trust your curiosity.
It knows what’s next before you do.

And yes – the gym is back on full-time.
The dating life? Officially Re-Opened. 😎

Here’s to new lanes, new energy, and the courage to follow what moves you.
